In the spring of 2000, Luigi Carini, known as Gino, piper from Miradolo Terme (PV), founder of the folk group "I Pedra", on a business trip to Barcelona bought a sweet Gralla in a musical instrument shop. The gralla is the Catalan cousin of the Ciaramella Molisana that Gino Carini had been playing for some time and had bought from both Luigi Ricci and Gerardo Guatieri with the usual problem of the reeds not being found and even when they were available they were difficult to tune perfectly. Amazed by the system adopted by the Gralla Catalana, Gino Carini thought I could also apply it to the Ciaramella Molisana and, having met Cesca San I Sastre in person, a very good violin maker in Sant Jaume de Llerca in the Catalan region of Garroxa, he convinced him to build the ciaramelle with the reed portal in brass, with rigorous respect for the tradition of wood: olive tree barrel and cherry bell. The results, as with all beautiful things, were not seen immediately, but the stubbornness and passion for this incomparable instrument meant that now, the Ciaramella you see, sounds perfectly in tune, as the reed holder is cylindrical and threaded and it can be moved slightly for tuning, and uses reeds that are easily available and of excellent quality and are also tunable as they are mounted with brass wire at the base. Gino Carini and the "I Pedra" Folk Group work and will work to ensure that Ciaramella Molisana spreads more and more among young enthusiasts of this unparalleled musical culture.
