Clarinet Doc. at the Conservatory of Music "F. Torrefranca" Vibo Valentia
In Maestro Lorenzo's laboratory, located in Parghelia in the province of Vibo Valentia, the key bagpipes and hangnails of Serra San Bruno are made.
He started building these wonderful instruments about twenty years ago, almost for fun. The passion and ability he demonstrated encouraged him to continue. These artifacts are made with the same techniques used by ancient builders but with means
obviously modern. He takes great care of his instruments in aesthetic, technical details and intonation so that they can be inserted into more professional contexts.
The key bagpipe models that the Maestro builds are: the "Menzetta" in F, the "Romana" in G, the "Sedici" in EB-D. The "Diciotto" in G low (six palms) with six sound pipes.
All bagpipes have five pipes with the characteristic fifth pipe (longest pipe) which emits the tonic of the tone as a sound, giving the instruments that characteristic timbre that makes them appreciated and known throughout the world. The woods mainly used are: heather, almond, rowan, apricot and ebony for the spindles. Cherry, red maple, olive, black and white mulberry, apple tree, etc..., for the bells.
